IOWA STATE NORMAL SCHOOL.

ATTENDANCE.

During the year 1887-8, the enrollment by terms was: fall, 302; winter, 291; spring, 238. Total number of different students enrolled during the year, 432.

STUDENTS, CLASSIFIED.

Fourth year class, 8; third year class, 32; second year class, 58; first year classes, third term, 86: second term, 75; first term, 59; irregulars and special students, 94; high school graduates' class, 20.

RESIDENCE OF STUDENTS.

During the year, seventy-five counties were represented by one or more students. Of the twenty-four counties not represented, eight have representatives attending during the fall term of '88.

GRADUATES.

At the June commencement 31 students were graduated, 8 from the scientific or four years' course, and 23 from the didactic or three years' course.

COURSES OF STUDY.

This institution now provides four courses of study:

A four years' course, containing all the subjects required for State diplomas.

A three years' course, including all the subjects required by statute for State certificates.

A supplementary course for high school graduates.

A professional course for college graduates.

SPECIAL METHOD CLASS.

Each term a class is organized for the benefit of experienced teachers. This has proven a most excellent feature of the work.

EXPENSES.

Tuition free to students intending to teach in Iowa. Contingent fee required by statute, fall term, $4; winter and spring terms, $3. Boarding at actual cost, ranging from 2.75 to 3.25. Other expenses as reasonable as in any other place in Iowa.

CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION.

AGE.-Young men must be at least seventeen, and young women sixteen, years of

age.

SCHOLARSHIP.-At least, the qualifications for a third grade certificate.
