16. Went to Church once. Governour Lincoln of Maine in town on a visit to his mother. He and his brother Levi Lincoln, governor of Massachusetts, were both at Church; so that I had the rare Sight of seeing together, two brothers, who are Governours, and both in office at the same time, and had the pleasure of taking each by the hand, when the services of the Church were ended.

18. Governour Enoch Lincoln, of Maine, called to see me. 20. Governour Levi Lincoln, called to see me. Mr. Samuel Crocker, Child, and Caroline, from Taunton.

23. Went to Church twice. Mr. Osgood of Sterling, preached. Mr. Samuel Crocker & Edward at dinner.

26. Caroline and my Great Grand daughter (Crocker) at dinner. Mrs. Merrick &c.-at tea.

27. Joseph Estey came to live with me as a Coachman, &c. 28. Mrs. Lincoln, widow of the late Lieut. Governor Lincoln died and I attended her funeral on the 30th. Parker went again to Rutland on his own business-and again lent him a horse as usual. His intended wife went with him. Sowed Peas in the Garden.

31. Sold a Lot of Land, with two houses standing thereon, (part of my home Estate) to the second Parish in Worcester, for $4000, on which the parish intend immediately to build a brick meeting house, and sell the one they now own. The houses on the Lot I have sold will be taken down or removed.

Harding,1 a young painter, only 5 months from the plough, and brother to a portrait painter of some celebrity, copied

This was Henry Harding, a brother of Chester Harding, of Boston. In the Massachusetts Spy of 5 March, 1828, "Mr. H. Harding, Portrait Painter, respectfully informs the public, that he has one or two finished Pictures, at the Room recently occupied by Mr. Upham, over Messrs. Davis & Allen's office, where he invites those who wish to call and examine them."

Mr. Harding afterward removed to South America.

my likeness, painted by Greenwood. This I had done at the repeated request of the President of Alleghany College, for the Hall of that Seminary. Harding took a second copy, which is for another purpose.

April, 1828.

1. Moses Thomas from Sterling, and Mr. Hildreth. Dined and returned.

3. Fast day. Went to Church twice. Parker again went to Rutland on his own business-again let him horse, &c. He sent off a team to Rutland with his household Goods.

4. The house wherein Webb, the barber has had a Shop for thirty years past, being to be taken away, and

the Chimnies already taken down, to oblige him, I cleared one of the rooms in the small warehouse, next to my dwelling house, to use as a Shop until he can [find] another, and no longer. For the use of it, he is to shave and dress my hair, as usual, so long as he occupies said room.

Emery Parker who has lived with me Ten Years and two weeks, as a Coachman, having bought a farm and stocked it, on which farm is a handsome house, which he has furnished it all with the money I have paid him for wages; and having engaged a wife, and immediately to be married, I dismissed him this day. Calf from the old Cow. 10. Parker again went to Rutland on his own business, & returned.

11. Parker-dismissed, and sat out for Hinsdale to be married. He has lived with me 10 years. Not faithful the last year.

12. Gave a power of Atty. to Nath. Crocker, of Dixmont to act as my Agent in the State of Maine.

13. Went to Church twice. Concert of sacred Musick, this Evening, at our Church. Crowded audience.

15. Moses Thomas from Sterling.

16. Moses Thomas returned home,-Unitarian Ministers Association Meeting, and a Sermon delivered on the occasion at the 2a parish Church.-Peter Rich began working in the Garden. Moses G. Thomas from Sterling. Unwell with Cholick in Evening & during the night-became more violent; had to get up; took Laudanum-had to take three doses of it, before the pain left me.

17. Much distressed with pain, which did not abate until 9 or 10 °Clock this morning-after which took Castor oil 4 times, which not operating took pills in the night.

Kept Chamber all day and had a physician. Much bewildered in consequence of the Laudanum.

18. Took another Pill. Very much better today. Moses G. Thomas returned to Sterling.

19. Samuel Crocker from Taunton. Let 2 seats in the Pew Webb occupies to Willard Day-1.25 per seat per

annum.

20. Did not go to Church.

21. Samuel Crocker returned to Taunton. Burned Chimnies.

22. Had a branch of a Weeping Willow sat out at the North End of my Tomb in Worcester.

23. Mrs. Pride's mother from Uxbridge.

25. Made out a Deed of a Lot of 50 acres, in the town. of Victory, Vermont, for Archibald Stark, for 59 dollars and sent the Deed to Isaac Dinsmore of Burke, Vermont, agent for my Lands in Victory, who is accountable for the Deed, and for the payment of the $59

26. Executed a Third Codocil to my Will in room of two other Codocils.

27. Did not go to Church.

28. Mrs. P's mother returned to Uxbridge.

30. Made a third Codocil to my Will. First Asparagus from the Garden.

May, 1828.

1. Placed the Altheas in the front yard from the Cellar. 2. Mrs. Pride went to Fitchburg by the way of Harvard, and returned the 6th inst.

3. Peach trees in full blow. Plum trees in blossom. 10 days later than the last year, but as early as usual.
