EXPLANATION

Of the Causes of Variation between Expenditure and Grant.

Surplus Due to delay in completing the "copy" for a hand-book on Furniture provision for which was included in the Estimate.

Surplus: Due to delay in the settlement of accounts for the transportation of reproductions from abroad.

Surplus: Due mainly to the employment of fewer men on account of the transfer of part of the work done by the Board's Staff to H.M. Office of Works.

Surplus: Due mainly to a saving in Lighting owing to the general absence of fog during the Lime the Museum was open to the public.
