Expenses of the OFFICE OF PUBLIC Works in IRELAND, in the Year ended 31st March 1906, showing the Surplus or Deficit upon each Sub-Head of the Vote.

EXPLANATION of the Causes of Variation between Expenditure and Grant. A.-Saving—Casual.

B.—Saving in travelling expenses of Assistant Surveyors, due to temporary decrease in number of cases of
Grants for National Schools.

C. Saving due mainly to decreased expenditure for Advertising.
D.-Saving is attributable to the decrease in the number of applications for loans during the year.
E-Deficit arises under circumstances stated at D.

EXTRA RECEIPTS, payable to EXCHEQUER. 2. A sum of 19,6371. has been paid to the Exchequer in repayment of the expenses Manageof the Department in connection with the administration of the Local Loans Fund, ment of

Local Loans partly out of the Income of that Fund, and partly out of the receipts by the Public

Fund. Works Loan Commissioners in excess of the amount appropriated in aid of their Vote.

This sum of 19,6371. forms part of the total amount of 31,3571. 38. 11d., to which reference is made in paragraph 2 of my Report on Class II, Vote 21.

3. Appended to this Report is a Statement, prepared by the Board of Works, showing Non-Voted the Receipts and Expenditure in respect of the Non-Voted Services administered by Services. the Board This account has been audited in my Department, and found correct.
