CONSERVATION EDUCATION CENTER provides fun-filled day-use activities. Center Station features films and displays that tell the story of Land Between the Lakes. Nature trails include Hematite, Woodland Walk, and Long Creek, a paved trail developed for the physically handicapped. Other trails include miles of old logging roads and a 17-mile Boy Scout trail. .. Empire Farm is a "see and touch" educational experience that delights children of all ages. Silo Overlook provides a panoramic view of Lake Barkley. Center Furnace recalls an era when the iron industry flourished in the area. .... Deer and other species of wildlife are abundant. HONKER, ENERGY, AND BARDS LAKES, three subimpoundments of Lake Barkley ranging from 110 to 370 acres, offer quiet fishing water and ideal canoeing spots. TWENTY LAKE ACCESS AREAS along the Kentucky Lake-Lake Barkley shoreline provide free boat launching ramps and scenic picnicking areas overlooking the lakeshore. BUFFALO (American bison) can be seen roaming a large pasture alongside The Trace in the southern portion of Land Between the Lakes. FISHING AND BOATING opportunities are almost unlimited along the quiet bays of the two lakes, and the 20 lake access areas provide quick and easy access to many of the major embayments. OVERLOOKS provide panoramic views of both Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. BACK COUNTRY DRIVES winding their way through the heavily wooded peninsula afford opportunities to get-away-from-it-all and enjoy the wide variety of plant and animal life in the area. ATTRACTIONS OUTSIDE LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES include a wide range of family fun facilities. Among the attractions found in the twin lakes region are a western frontier village, boat docks, fishing camps, state and national parks, resorts, excellent restaurants and motels, golf courses, campgrounds and shopping centers. And nearby communities are among the most hospitable anywhere. CAMPING SUPPLIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES. GROCERIES, ICE, AND OTHER NECESSITIES CAN BE ACQUIRED IN ANY OF THE COMMUNITIES JUST OUTSIDE THE AREA.
