A silver medal was awarded to Leo Weltz, of Wilmington, for display of evergreens, and it was ordered that a second premium be added to evergreens in the next list. DEAR SIR: I hereby enter an earnest protest against the payment of premiums awarded to A. Ware in the Berkshire class, under Rule II, which reads: "No animal to be entered in the name of any other than the bona fide owner. Should any be otherwise entered, they will forfeit to the Society any premiums awarded by the judges. Also in sweepstakes on herds of swine, the rule specifies that "the herd shall be bred and owned by the exhibiter." I am positive Mr. Ware is not the owner of the swine entered in his name, and therefore enter this protest. Very respectfully yours, WM. SMITH, Exhibiter of Swine. Protest not sustained, and premiums ordered to stand as awarded. State Board of Agriculture: STATE FAIR GROUNDS, GENTLEMEN: I hereby protest against the payment of premiums awarded to W. P. Church on a pair of light-harness geldings, on the following grounds: The rule reads, "A horse entered in one class can not compete for premiums in another, except sweepstakes, and as one of a pair or herd." Mr. Church violated this rule by having entered the same team as a pair of coach geldings. Protest sustained. Respectfully, J. F. STAGers. State Board of Agriculture: GENTLEMEN: I hereby protest against the payment of the premiums awarded on the sheep exhibited by E. J. Hiatt & Bros., on account of their having been shown in Febuary, being two months before the time designated in the premium list. Also against the awards to J. M. Kirkpatrick for showing lambs not the get of the ram on exhibition, when the rale requires that rams two years old and over shall be judged by their get. Respectfully, J. N. WRIGHT. Weltz, Baker, and Cowden as a committee to examine applications for premiums on field crops. Messrs. Pope, Murphy, and Wales were appointed a committee to examine the accounts of the Treasurer and Secretary. Agreed, That Thos. Bushnell be allowed a premium of $10 for hedge entered for competition in 1878; also that he be allowed a second premium for display of grasses at State Fair of 1878. The committee on Field Crops made the following report: Your committee appointed to examine the applications for premiums offered on field crops, find but one application, that of Mr. 8. Silvers, of Butler county, for one-half acre of sweet potatoes, yielding 137 bushels. The rules of the Board relative to sworn statements, mode of culture, etc., having been complied with, we unanimously award to Mr. Silvers the premium offered. [Signed] R. BAKER, The committee on Accounts of Treasurer and Secretary reported the following: We, the undersigned committee appointed to examine the accounts of the Secretary and Treasurer, as kept by James W. Fleming, the Acting Secretary of the Board, beg leave to report that after a thorough examination of the books, and a comparison of vouchers presented and checks issued, we find the several accounts correct. The books have been correctly and systematically kopt, and the receipts and disbursements clearly and satisfactorily set forth. [Signed] D. L. Adjourned to meet in convention Wednesday, at 11 A.M. THURSDAY MORNING, January 8. Board met to close up all unfinished business prior to the organization of the new Board. Bills from the Turf, Field and Farm and Spirit of the Times for notice of Ohio State Fair for 1879 were presented and, on motion, referred to Mr. Pope. The Secretary was instructed to order subscriptions to the Ohio Farmer. On motion of Mr. Weltz, it was Agreed, That in view of the long and valuable services of the late John H. Klippart as Secretary of the Board, and considering the satisfactory condition of the funds in the Treasury, that a check covering the amount of two months' salary (November and December, 1878) be drawn in favor of the widow of the late Secretary. Mr. Wales was appointed a committee to confer with Dr. Salisbury, of Cleveland, who, it is understood, has recently made some valuable discoveries relative to hog-cholera, and suggest to him the propriety of furnishing a paper setting forth his discoveries, which paper should be engrafted into the forthcoming Agricultural Report. A vote of thanks was tendered to Senator B. W. Carlisle, the retiring President, for his good services and general courteous treatment to members during his term of office. E.
