I have the honor to submit herewith, for transmission to Congress, in accordance with the provisions of the organic act, the annual report of this Department: APPROPRIATIONS AND EXPENDITURES. The itemized statement of expenditures from the contingent fund of the Department of Commerce and Labor will be transmitted to Congress in the usual form. The following table shows the aggregate amounts of the annual appropriations for the various bureaus and services of the Department of Commerce and Labor for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1905, of the appropriations for public works and balances of appropriations in the Treasury available July 1, 1904, for public works, which under the law are expended without regard to any particular fiscal year, and of permanent indefinite appropriations: a This represents the aggregate of 84 items of appropriations made at different times by Congress for repairs to and the erection of light-houses, beacons, fog signals, light-ships, light-house depots, etc., in Treasury available July 1, 1904. Contracts have been made, or will be made as soon as plans and specifications can be prepared and approved, that will require the expenditure of the entire sum. Of the amount, 8862,430 was appropriated by the act of Congress approved April 28, 1904, entitled “An act making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1905, and for other purposes." Includes $120,627.04 of appropriation "Collecting statistics, Census Office, 1905-6," which was expended during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1905. |
