This book is the seminal account of the early settlers of the Leitersberg District near Hagerstown, Maryland. Although a first rate guide to the early genealogical records of the time and place, the book does contain some errors. For example, H.C. Bell has Captain Peter Bell married to Elizabeth Leiter. In fact, the will of Johann Freiderich Vogeler makes it clear that his daughter, Elizabeth Vogeler, was the wife of Captain Peter Bell in bequesting a portion of his estate to his grandchildren, all of whom are the known children of Peter Bell. In another place, Bell says that no muster lists survive of Peter Bell's company. Such lists do survive and can be found at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore.
