CHINA INDEMNITY FUND ACCOUNT, 1926.

REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER AND AUDITOR GENERAL.

The account is charged with expenditure of £16,891 15s. 10d. incurred by the Secretary of State under Section 1 (3) of the China Indemnity (Application) Act, 1925.

This sum includes fees amounting to £10,000 and travelling expenses paid to six Members of the Advisory Committee, established under Section 1 (2) of the Act, who examined the situation in China with a view to making recommendations.

The proposals of this Committee were embodied in Cmd. 2766, but no steps have yet been taken to give them legislative effect. Meanwhile, the balance of the Fund, amounting to £1,831,489 4s. 5d., is held in a bank at Shanghai.
