Appendix, No. 1. COAL DUTIES, &c. PRODUCE and Application of the LONDON BRIDGE APPROACHES FUND, for effecting The produce of the fund, it is estimated, will have satisfied the above charges with interest by about April 1861. Interest is payable on the sum of 69,460 l. 3s. 6d. mentioned above, at the rate of four per cent. per annum. It is estimated that the duty if solely applied in paying principal and interest of the above charges would satisfy them by July 1880. CHARGES upon the 1 d. duty. THE charges made upon this duty by the Commissioners of Woods, &c., have been satisfied and a surplus remaining out of the proceeds for the quarter to 30 September 1859, amounting to 2,982 l. 2 s. 9 d., has been placed in the books of their office to the credit of an account entitled "The Metropolis Improvement Fund Account," to which account the future proceeds of the 1 d. duty will continue to be carried quarterly, as received from the City, until the 5th July 1862, when this duty will cease. The Commissioners have directed that the beforementioned surplus, as also the sums hereafter to be received shall be invested in the purchase of three per cent. consols, and that the accruing dividends shall be similarly invested pursuant to the provisions of the Act 8 & 9 Vict. c. 101. |
